The colours of Autumn are some of the most beautiful shades that nature shares with us. As Summer comes to an end and the weather begins to turn, you might be looking to update your home to reflect the change in seasons. Here at Wall Bros, we’ve put together our Autumn flooring guide to walk you through the colours and flooring that’s trending for Autumn 2022.

If you see something you like the look of, make sure you pop into our Worthing or Storrington showroom to speak to our team of flooring experts about bringing the trend into your home.

Colour trends for Autumn 2022

For this Autumn, colour trends are looking a bit different to previous years with more uplifting and light colours becoming a popular choice. In previous years, deep colours have been popular as people opt to compliment shorter days and darker evenings.

This year, though, we predict that lighter, more energising colours are going to be popular. Albeit with one or two darker tones thrown in.

Light blue

Blue is a wonderful colour and this Autumn we expect light blue to be a popular choice. Bringing a splash of light colour to interiors, light blue is a great way to bring hints of the season to come and provide contrast to natural wall colours and darker furniture. All while remaining an energising colour that can bring a sense of tranquillity to your home.

Just like in the photo from Ulster Carpets above, the use of light blue in your carpet doesn’t have to be overpowering. In fact, a more subtle blue tone in flecked carpet can work really well to bring a hint of colour while still being incredibly versatile when it comes to the design of the rest of the room.

Deep greens

Green is typically a colour that we see in Spring and Summer; its use being a reflection of new life and nature. In these Autumn months to come though, we expect deeper shades of greens to become a popular choice.

The use of deeper greens offers a surprising warmth and creates a sense of calm as it has connotations of earth and being close to nature. A welcoming feeling when the nights get darker and colder.

The great thing about green tones is they go really well with brown tones, making wood flooring or wood-style vinyl flooring a complimenting choice. Just like the photo above – that beautiful herringbone flooring is actually vinyl flooring (Yes, really!)

Deep yellows

Almost as a carryover from the Summer trend where brighter yellows were popular, now as we approach Autumn, deeper yellows are taking the limelight, just like they do when the leaves on the trees turn and become golden. Unlike the other colour trends we’ve mentioned, deep yellow tones usually do become more popular at this time of year and we expect that this year will be no different.

Just like the photo above, deeper yellows look great on soft furnishings and walls. Wood flooring compliments yellow tones really well and it can be a great opportunity to incorporate the flooring trend of oversized planks which we’ll talk about later.

Grey (of course!)

It goes without saying that the colour grey is a strong trend throughout the year mainly due to its versatility and sense of luxury it brings to home interiors. Autumn 2022 is no different and choosing grey carpet is a fantastic way to pay homage to this continuously strong trend.

The photo from Brockway Carpets above is a great example of a lounge space that has captured most of the colour trends we’ve mentioned. With the green and blue being used in the furnishings, the grey carpet ties all of the colours together.

Flooring trends for Autumn 2022

Wood flooring

As the weather gets colder, people tend to be drawn to darker tones and we expect this to be reflected in a dark wood flooring trend over Autumn. Although wood flooring is often thought of as cold, a good underlay will improve both comfort and warmth underfoot. Creating a great choice over Autumn.

The photo from Quick Step above demonstrates our point earlier that a dark wood flooring compliments deep yellow. Adding deep yellows or possibly blue and green with soft furnishings is a fantastic way to create a perfect, on-trend look in your home.

Don’t forget that there are different-sized planks that can create a beautiful wood flooring. Although other sized planks are making a comeback, wide planks are still a firm trend and we expect this to continue through Autumn. Why not opt for a wide-plank dark wood flooring this Autumn?

Patterns

Just like last Autumn, patterned flooring is set to be popular this year as people continue to bring an element of nature into their homes. With floral and plant patterns being among the most popular pattern choices.

Having said that, patterned carpet doesn’t have to be a reflection of living nature as the pictured Ulster Carpets’ watercolour collection shows. The mixtures of colours in the watercolour range are elemental, making the carpets reminiscent of the earth, sea and sky. Allowing you to bring a sense of nature into your home, while staying away from florals and plant-themed patterns.

Although if you’d like to opt for hard flooring, there are plenty of vinyl flooring that incorporates pattern into its design. The Invictus Victorian Treasure Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a fantastic example of that (see right) and Invictus also produces matching carpets to go with all of its LVT ranges.

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is a favourable choice in the current market as buyers can enjoy the look of materials such as stone and wood in their homes without the price tag.

Advances in the flooring industry have meant that vinyl flooring has become progressively more able to mimic different materials. LVT in particular can have the texture of other materials such as stone because it is laid in square pieces. Rather than as one piece of flooring like other vinyl flooring.

Another fantastic thing about vinyl flooring is its versatility. As you can see from the photo above, vinyl flooring can be used in all areas of your home. From the kitchen through to lounge areas, creating seamless synergy throughout your home.

As we said at the beginning of this guide, if you’ve seen anything here that you’d like in your home, pop into our Worthing or Storrington showroom to view our ranges and speak to our award-winning team of flooring experts.
